Join us for a tree planting workshop with Ashley Mattson and Tim Spoelma of the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC)!
We’ll meet at 10AM at the Swan Valley Connections office and head over to the Elk Creek Conservation Area together, where we’ll share information and tips for planting native tree species before planting some seedlings on the property. The workshop will end at 2PM.
This workshop will cover:
information on ordering seedlings from the DNRC nursery
other resources available for landowners for advice on forest stewardship (DNRC service foresters, SVC fuel reduction cost-share program, etc)species selection
site selection
seedling spacing
best practices for planting/watering to improve chances of seedling survival, as well as different tools that can be utilized.
Tim Spoelma is the Forest Ecologist/Silviculturist for the DNRC and coordinated the planting of 300,000+ seedlings on state Trust Lands in 2023.
Ashley Mattson is the Nursery Operations Specialist for the DNRC Montana Conservation Seedling Nursery.
