Sara Lamar

MANAGING DIRECTOR-
EDUCATION & CONNECTION

a.k.a “queen of carrion”

Sara first came to Montana as a Wildlife in the West student in 2011. After finishing her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont, she returned to the Swan Valley to serve as an intern for SVC’s college field programs and carnivore monitoring project. Since that internship, Sara has fulfilled many roles in the organization over the last decade. Originally drawn West by charismatic megafauna and snowcapped mountains, it turned out to be the rich human history, culture, and community that anchored her here.

Sara is now one of SVC’s three managing directors, leading and implementing the organization’s strategic vision. As the Managing Director of Education & Connection, Sara oversees the development and implementation of all of SVC’s education programs, from youth to college students and adults.

Sara additionally works with the Creative & Communications Director to share impactful and strategic messaging, and is the spokesperson for the organization, connecting with stakeholders across the state at events. Sara serves as the liaison to SVC’s Board of Directors, supporting their efforts to ensure that through exemplary stewardship, the Swan watershed and adjacent landscapes remain wild, resilient places, where all people are connected to the natural world.

Sara is passionate about natural history, teaching, and finding equitable solutions to complex natural resource issues. When she isn’t outside with the next generation of conservation leaders, you’ll find Sara hunting, fishing, backpacking, or generally exploring Montana’s wild public lands and looking for dead stuff.
