Taylor Tewksbury
EDUCATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR
a.k.a our beloved “bird nerd”
Originally from upstate New York, Taylor (she/her) grew up exploring and learning from the forests of the Northeast. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in marine science from the University of Delaware, where she studied tidal marsh bird ecology, Taylor arrived in Montana in 2020 for a citizen science position in Yellowstone. While working in a variety of wildlife, trail, and environmental education positions, she was drawn to stay in Montana by the community she has found here. Taylor earned an M.S. in environmental studies from the University of Montana and a graduate certificate in Natural Resources Conflict Resolution. While at UM, she studied person-place relationships in community science programs and deepened her interest in the ways we can more equitably navigate complex natural resource issues on shared landscapes.
In her role at SVC, Taylor coordinates the organization’s education programs and volunteer engagement opportunities. She enjoys connecting with the SVC community while organizing events like the Christmas Bird Count and quarterly potlucks. As an instructor for SVC’s experiential-learning courses, she works with students of all ages in programs like Wildlife in the West, Master Naturalist, and Wildlife Track and Sign. Taylor also acts as a program coordinator with the Mission Mountains Youth Crew, which is a collaboration between CSKT Natural Resources Department, CSKT Tribal Education, the Salish Kootenai College, the U.S. Forest Service, Swan Valley Connections, and the National Forest Foundation. Finally, with a passion for community-based conservation, Taylor is working to grow SVC’s citizen science program.
